Want to know more about IT jobs? Send us your question using this form and we'll answer it.
Do IT jobs require a lot of time spent alone?
Not really. Even programming jobs require a lot of team work. Many IT jobs involve giving customer support, staying in touch with partners, liaising with overseas colleagues and spending time in meetings.
Are IT salaries attractive?
Yes, the IT sector is very competitive and tends to offer quite attractive salaries compared to other fields.
Is it possible to balance private and work life in the IT sector?
As much work takes place online, it is often possible to work from home if you are employed in the IT sector. This is particularly important for parents with young children, who want to spend more time at home.
Is the IT sector interested in recruiting female students?
Yes! Although it is seen as male-dominated, the IT sector is very interested to recruit more women. As there are still fewer women in the field, IT firms are keen to even out the balance in their workforce.
Do IT jobs involve travel?
Yes, many IT companies have partners or facilities overseas. Although video conferencing, Skype and phone conferencing are important, it is also necessary to travel to meet face-to-face from time to time.
What's the best way to find a job in IT?
Studying a relevant subject is important - such as computer science or multimedia. However many people also go into IT after qualifying in another topic (e.g. marketing, finance), as long as they also included some component of IT-related subjects (e.g. eCommerce). Once you have a qualification, it can be useful to do an internship in a company to gain practical experience.
